SOLENOIDSTO-5
  World's Smallest Solenoid
  FEATURES
The TO-5 is a high speed impulse solenoid with body dimensions equivalent to that of the TO-5 Transistor Case. Since the acceleration of solenoids is equal to the force-to-mass ratio, dimensions of 0.5 in. (L) and 0.35 in. (D) result in a high speed unit. Other features include:
  • Capable of Developing Forces Over 5Og on Impulse Duty
  • High Magnetic Efficiency
  • Self-Lubricating Plunger Guide Assures Long Operational Life
  • Can Be P.C.B. Mounted
  • Will Function in Continuous Duty Applications
  • High Iron Resistivity Limits the Slow-Down Effects of Eddy Currents
  • Weighs Only 1.7 g
  • Has High Iron to Copper Ratio to Achieve Maximum Efficiency.

  SPECIFICATIONS
Maximum Stroke.100 inches
Maximum on-Time25 ms at 100 watts
Response TimeLess than .5 ms possible
Operationai Life100,000,000 operations
OperationOn impulse duty, the average power should not exceed 3/4 watt but the instantaneous power may be as high as 2OO watts providing the on-time doesn't exceed 25 milli-seconds. The off-time should be long enough to keep the average power at 3/4 watts or less. Forces over 50 grams may be so obtained when plunger travels up to 0.100 inch. A typical curve illustrates the forces generated at various pole force gaps with 100 watts of instantaneously applied power and with 3/4 watts of continous power.
ConfigurationsThe three styles shown are the "standard" versions available. The case, plunger and return spring may all be modified in order to adapt the TO-5 to your particular application. Please contact us to engineer your product to your design specifications.
ApplicationsDigital interface equipment for tape-punching and transport. Shutters for optical devices such as cameras, proectors and lasers. Latching mechanisms like breaker trips, alarms and cartridge-denotation devices. High-speed valving. Many, many more where you need to generate high forces for short times or for pulled operation or intermitten duty such as in disk drive latch mechanisms, tactile indicators and electronic security systems.
